The Refined, Bleached and Deodorised (RBD) coconut oil is regarded as a perfect cooking ingredient due to its very high smoke point of 450°F and its high content of healthy medium chained fatty acids. The physical refining process ensures the removal of excess free fatty acids, high colour particles, aroma, impurities and moisture to guarantee a prolonged shelf-life.
Pure coconut oil is specially made for those who favour the smell of coconut, but not the high colour of raw coconut oil. Ordinary coconut oil contains less colour, moisture, impurities and free fatty acids while preserving the much-loved characteris- tic aroma of coconuts. This has been the the most popular cooking oil in Sri Lanka for generation.
The world’s most consumed oil – the RBD palm olein is obtained by refining and fractionation of crude palm oil. Commonly marketed as Vegetable Oil in Sri Lanka, SMR’s refined palm olein is golden in colour and is perfect for cooking. It is also used as a raw material for the manufacture of margarine and shortening, soaps, candles, etc,as well as in oleochemical industries.
RBD palm stearin is the fractionated solid content of refined palm oil. It is a snowy white solid at room temperature, a light-yellow liquid when heated. it contains very low amounts of free fatty acids, moisture & odour and is available in a wider range of melting points and iodine values. SMR’s refined palm stearin is ideal to be used as an industrial fat ingredient for manufacturing margarines and bakery products.
Processed at the state-of-the-art margarine plant of the SMR factory, industrial margarine and shortening are produced using refined oil obtained from the factory itself. SMR is capable of producing many forms of fat blends and margarines with different melting points to fulfil any specific customer requirements for bakery and confectionary industries.
A by-product of refining, the free fatty acid distillates of coconut and palm oil are perfect raw materials for soap making. Coconut fatty acid distillate is liquid in room temperature whereas palm fatty acid is solid. This product which has a high demand is exported in bulk by SMR.
